Arjiit Singh details incident that angered Salman
Arjiit Singh and Salman Khan have recently made headlines ever since the former posted a lengthy apology note for the latter on Facebook. Arjit had mentioned an incident in which he had 'accidentally' insulted Sultan superstar Salman Khan. In a recent interview, the Gerua singer revealed how Salman had been slighted when Singh accepted an award from him, in sandals!
According to Arjiit Singh, he was quite tired and dozed off while Salman Khan had announced him as the winner of an award. Hence it took him awhile to get on-stage and accept the award.
While I was walking up to the stage, they started capturing my images in my chappals and casuals. On stage, Salman Khan was laughing in disbelief saying, 'Tu hai winner' (You're the winner)? When I got on stage, he asked me if I had fallen asleep. In my nervousness I blurted out, 'Aap logon ne sula dia' (you all put me to sleep). I immediately bit my tongue," said the singer.
The singer did reveal that he apologised to Salman Khan repeatedly.
"That night when I was in my flight, I kept thinking about the incident and felt sorry about it. When I reached Kolkata, I texted him. He texted me back saying I shouldn't have gone so casually and I shouldn't disrespect awards. I was happy that he rebuked me as a senior and that he had got the anger out of his system. I didn't know he was still angry," said Arjiit.
From then on, Arjiit Singh revealed Salman had him removed from multiple movies that he was a part of, including Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick and the latest, Sultan. He said he was hurt because of Salman's actions and knew his apology on Facebook would go viral.
"I'm really hurt. If I had not sung the song well, I would have been okay. But there's no reason for getting it removed. When I was told that it was removed, I wasn't in Mumbai. If I would have been, I would have gone straight to his home. Rather than trying to reach him through mutual friends, I decided to write my apology on Facebook. I knew it would go viral. It happened in an hour. I knew the impact of my action," he said.
Humaima Malick tweets against CII's proposed bill
The recent bill proposed by the Council of Islamic Ideology has ruffled feathers. Women have reacted strongly and sharply to the CII's proposal that wives 'can be beaten lightly' by their husbands. While some people have spoken out against the recommendation by using light humor, Pakistani actress Humaima Malick lashed out against it on Twitter.
In a series of scathing tweets, the actress warned those who wanted to beat women lightly that they would be 'reduced to just a little man'.
Hollywood stars are doing item numbers in our flicks: Abhishek Bachchan
Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan surrounds himself with people who have starred in Hollywood flicks. We all saw Amitabh Bachchan's role in The Great Gatsbyopposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Abhishek Bachchan's wife Aishwarya Rai has also starred in a couple of Hollywood flicks such as The Last Legion and The Pink Panther 2. You'd think Abhishek Bachchan might also venture into Hollywood but quite the contrary is true.
The Bollywood actor, who was recently at a promotional event for his upcoming film Housefull 3 with co-stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Riteish Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar and Lisa Haydon, stated that people from Hollywood were coming to work in Indian movies.
"There is a lot hype given to Hollywood. English is just a language and nothing else. Today there is a huge demand of Hindi films globally. People from Hollywood are coming and doing item numbers and films," he said.
Meanwhile, superstar Akshay Kumar also voiced the same sentiment that he had no interest in Hollywood. The actor stated that currently he was shooting with Rajinikanth for a Tamil film titled 2.0.
"I am doing a Tamil film. I have no interest in Hollywood," he said.
Is Abhishek Bachchan echoing the sentiment because he hasn't been offered any meaty roles in Hollywood or does he truly mean what he says?
Pope gives awards to Richard Gere, George Clooney and Salma Hayek
Pope Francis on Sunday awarded medals to American actors Richard Gere and George Clooney and actress Salma Hayek at an event held at the Vatican to promote the work of a foundation inspired by the pontiff, Scholas Occurrentes.
Clooney attended the event with his wife Amal, a lawyer.
The foundation, whose name means "schools that meet" in Spanish, links technology with the arts, aiming at social integration and a cultural of peace.
Francis had created a similar organisation when he was Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, but Scholas has now become an international foundation working out of the Vatican.
"Important values can be transmitted by celebrities," said one of the organisers, Lorena Bianchetti, adding that the actors had agreed to be ambassadors for one of the foundation's arts projects.
Box Office: 'X-Men: Apocalypse' hits $65 million, 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' flops
Fox's "X-Men: Apocalypse" and Disney's "Alice Through the Looking Glass" squared off over Memorial Day weekend, but both blockbuster hopefuls emerged bruised from this box office clash of the titans.
The latest X-Men adventure easily topped the weekend, earning an estimated $65 million. It is on pace to pull in over $76 million over the four-day spell. That's a solid start, but a significant drop off from the $110.5 million that the previous film, "X-Men: Days of Future Past," racked up over the 2014 Memorial Day holiday.
Things were much bleaker for "Alice Through the Looking Glass." The follow-up to 2010's "Alice in Wonderland," which racked up more than $1 billion during its run, stumbled out of the gate, bombing with $28.1 million and a projected $35 over the four-day period. That's a disastrous start for a film with an $170 million production budget.
The fantasy adventure will try to staunch the bleeding overseas, where "Alice Through the Looking Glass" grossed an estimated $65 million from such major territories as Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Brazil. The film has opened in 72 percent of the international market, with France (June 1), Japan (July 1), and South Korea (Sept. 8) still on deck.
"Alice's" opening is bad news for Johnny Depp, whose star has waned in recent years, its luster diminished by flops such as "Mortdecai" and "Transcendence." The actor was in the headlines over the weekend after his wife Amber Heard filed for divorce, alleging abuse.
Both new releases failed to hit tracking, with some analysts expecting "X-Men: Apocalypse" to debut to between $80 million and $100 million, and many box office sages projecting an "Alice" launch in the $55 million range. The competition appeared to take a chunk out of both film's ticket sales.
Some analysts believe that the "Alice in Wonderland" sequel couldn't compete in the crowded summer season. The first film debuted in the spring, when there were fewer major studio releases vying for attention.
"'X-Men' destroyed Alice, no question," said Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitor Relations. "That's what happens when a spring fling attempts to go fult-tilt summer blockbuster. We've seen this happen in the past and it usually doesn't work out."
Sony's "The Angry Birds Movie" took third place in its second weekend of release, earning approximately $19 million, to bring its domestic haul to roughly $72 million.
In fourth place, "Captain America: Civil War" added $15.1 million to its total. The super hero film has earned $377 million domestically, pushing it past "Deadpool" to become the year's highest-grossing stateside release. "Neighbor's 2: Sorority Rising" rounded out the top five, nabbing $9.1 million to push its domestic gross to $40.4 million after two weeks in theaters.
Bosnia pays tribute to David Bowie with vast mural
A group of artists unveiled a huge mural of David Bowie in Sarajevo on Saturday to commemorate the British musician's humanitarian work during the Bosnian war.
To the sound of Bowie's "Space Oddity," up to 300 people attended the inauguration of the mural, which bore the inscription: "Fashion changes, but you'll always be my heroes."
The mural -- 13 meters (43 feet) high and 10.5 meters (34 feet) wide -- is painted on a building on the university campus, a short distance from the street once known as Sniper Alley, and is intended to symbolize the way Bosnia has changed since the end of the 1992-95 war.
Sketches were done by Marvel comics illustrator Enis Cisic and turned into the mural by painter Zoran Herceg, who took a month and half to complete it. The plan to immortalize Bowie, who died of cancer at age 69 on Jan. 10, was initially put forward by local musician Vedad Trbonja.
The project was supported by thousands of Bosnians, who have been posting Bowie-style photos on social networks, as well as some of Bowie's co-workers.
Bowie was moved by the sufferings of Bosnians and he used his fame to increase awareness about the war and raise money for humanitarian purposes, although he did not visit Sarajevo.
"This is a way to pay tribute to Bowie as an artist and humanitarian and immortalize him in the town that never got a chance to host him," said Adnan Comor, a spokesman for the group behind the project, Bowie Team Sarajevo.
